Zealous Abode ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and safeguard your information when you use our family organization application ("the Service").

This policy applies to all users worldwide, including users in the European Economic Area (EEA), United Kingdom, and other jurisdictions with data protection laws.

Account Information

When you sign in with Google, we collect:

  • Name
  • Email address
  • Profile picture (if available)

Family Data

To provide the Service, we store:

  • Family member profiles
  • Calendar events and schedules
  • Tasks and chore assignments
  • Meal plans and recipes
  • Points and achievements

Technical Information

We automatically collect:

  • Device type and browser information
  • IP address (for security purposes)
  • Usage patterns within the application
  • Pages visited, referral sources, and session duration (via Google Analytics)

4. Legal Basis for Processing (GDPR)

If you are in the EEA or UK, we process your personal data on the following legal bases:

  • Performance of a contract — Processing your account information and family data is necessary to provide the Service you signed up for (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR).
  • Legitimate interests — We process technical information (device type, IP address, usage patterns) to maintain security, prevent fraud, and improve the Service. Our legitimate interest does not override your fundamental rights (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR).
  • Consent — We use Google Analytics for website analytics. Analytics cookies are set based on your consent, which you can withdraw at any time (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR).
  • Legal obligation — We may process data when required by law (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR).

Our Service integrates with the following third parties:

  • Google Calendar — For calendar synchronization (optional, user-initiated)
  • iCal-compatible calendars — For calendar sync via iCal feeds (optional)
  • Stripe — For subscription payment processing
  • Google Analytics — For website traffic and usage analysis

Optional integrations are only activated with your consent. Each third-party service operates under its own privacy policy.

10. Google API Services Usage

Zealous Abode's use and transfer of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.

What We Access

When you connect your Google Calendar, we access:

  • Your Google Calendar events (titles, times, descriptions, locations)
  • Your Google account email address (for identification)

How We Use Google Data

We use Google Calendar data exclusively to:

  • Display your Google Calendar events within Zealous Abode
  • Sync events you create in Zealous Abode to your Google Calendar
  • Keep your family calendar up-to-date across both platforms

What We Do NOT Do

  • We do NOT sell or share your Google data with third parties
  • We do NOT use your Google data for advertising purposes
  • We do NOT transfer your Google data to AI or machine learning models
  • We do NOT retain your Google data after you disconnect the integration

Revoking Access

You can disconnect Google Calendar integration at any time from Settings → Integrations. You can also revoke access from your Google Account permissions page. Upon disconnection, we delete all cached Google Calendar data from our servers.

11. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the Service. Upon account deletion:

  • Personal data is deleted within 30 days
  • Anonymized usage statistics may be retained
  • Backup copies are purged according to our retention schedule
  • Payment records may be retained as required by applicable tax and financial laws

Google Analytics data is retained according to our configured retention period and Google's data retention policies.

12. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Right of access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Right to rectification — Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
  • Right to erasure — Request deletion of your personal data ("right to be forgotten")
  • Right to restrict processing — Request that we limit how we use your data
  • Right to data portability — Request your data in a structured, machine-readable format
  • Right to object — Object to processing based on legitimate interests, including profiling
  • Right to withdraw consent — Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent (e.g., analytics cookies)

Right to lodge a complaint: If you are in the EEA or UK, you have the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection supervisory authority if you believe your data has been processed unlawfully.

13. Children's Privacy

The Service allows parents or legal guardians to create accounts for their children as part of a family. Children's accounts are managed by parents, and children's data is subject to the same protections as adult data. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 16 without parental consent in compliance with GDPR, or under 13 in compliance with COPPA. If you believe a child has provided us personal data without appropriate consent, please contact us immediately.
